Hilda Moraa is the Founder and former CEO of Weza Tele Ltd, a leading technology startup that started in 2011, focusing on providing value add mobility and financial solutions at the micro distribution sector. Early this year, Weza Tele was acquired for more than KSHS 150M (more than USD 1.5M) by a global financial firm. Hilda has more than 5 years diverse experience in developing and scaling startups and innovations across Africa. In the past, she has worked for global multi nationals to the likes of Coca-Cola and she has also played a key role in the tech and innovation ecosystem by being part of building the foundations of initiatives such as iHub Research and leading innovation research acrosss East and West Africa. She has also founded the Kenya Tech Entrepreneurship Virtual Group that aims to bring local technpreneurs together to share their lessons, networks and talent to spur peer to peer mentoring and growth.
Hilda holds a Masters in Entrepreneurship from JKUAT and a degree in Business Information Technology from Strathmore University. She has also published and written various research papers and journals on the subjects of ICT, development, tech startup ecosystem, innovation Hubs and entrepreneurship in Africa. In the past she has incredulously won various awards and fellowship programs globally e.g. Indiafrica and Oxford.
She was featured as one of the top 40 under 40 women in 2015. At only 26 years old, she has has achieved a lot and championed in the local tech scene for her endless passion in supporting and mentoring other young techpreneurs through sharing her lessons and entrepreneurial knowledge, experiences in inspiring ways such as through her first book A Kenyan Startup Journey- 10 Key Lessons I Learnt . She was also a key note speaker at the Global Entrepreneurship summit 2015 and Pivot East 2015.
Her other interests lie in Fintech, data science, investing in startups with potential of positive Return on Investments and farming.
